COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pasco will open Memorial Pool’s new dome cover for year-round swimming following a $2 million upgrade to the facility. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28 — the event includes a free community swim.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
  • A one-year-old pup named Keriah visited the studio on Wet Nose Wednesday as part of Pet Overpopulation Prevention (POPP)'s foster-to-adopt program after a good Samaritan rescued her from abandonment. She is potty and crate trained but is not a fit for homes with cats.  KFLD
  • A nine-year-old boy received a new bike through the Young Hearts program on Wednesday and named it (Messi 10 Go) to celebrate his leadership and friendship in Pasco. The gesture highlighted local youth support and community spirit.  Apple Valley News Now
  • Kennewick will host the Great Train Show at the Benton County Fairgrounds this weekend. Model train displays, club exhibits + a Thomas-themed ride for kids will run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, with admission costing $12 on Saturday and $11 on Sunday.  610 KONA

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Washington Academy of Sciences and the Department of Agriculture are launching the Growing With AI program to boost local farm production using tools like an AI laser weeding machine from a Richland plant (designed to tackle labor shortages and rising costs) and improve weather forecasting.  610 KONA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pasco residents will vote on a replacement school levy in February that will fund operations from 2027 to 2030. School officials say the measure will help maintain class sizes, extracurricular activities and safety + attract state aid.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Communities In Schools of Benton-Franklin raised $19,981 (a record total) during its end-of-year campaign to fund student support programs across Benton and Franklin counties. Donations were matched by Hanford Mission Integration Solutions to double the aid for local students.  NBC Tri-Cities

HEALTH NEWS

  • Nurses at Kadlec Regional Medical Center plan an informational picket on Monday, Jan. 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. outside the hospital to spotlight safety concerns and the lack of guaranteed breaks — issues that emerged after 17 days of bargaining.  KEPR
