EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Pasco School District is asking voters to renew a four-year levy on Feb. 10 that funds sports, fine arts, safety and staffing; the levy generates about $35 million annually (plus $14 million in state aid) to support student programs. Apple Valley News Now
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Crews are dismantling the Bateman Island Causeway—a 550-foot land bridge that has connected the island for 85 years—to mix waters from the Columbia and Yakima Rivers and boost fish and bird habitats. Access concerns persist and plans for a replacement bridge are not feasible due to cost. NBC Tri-Cities

- ➤ More than 100,000 customers remain without power today after a severe winter storm, and officials warn that restoration may take several days—utility crews are working to fix damaged lines. Apple Valley News Now
- ➤ Kennewick Fire Department conducted ice rescue training as temperatures remain below freezing. Firefighters advised residents to avoid the ice and reminded pet owners to keep dogs leashed (using the 1-10-1 rule) for safety. NBC Tri-Cities
