BUSINESS NEWS

  • Amazon cut 16,000 corporate jobs as part of its restructuring to boost its AI focus (the company aims to reduce bureaucracy and reallocate funds). This shift in Washington’s tech sector has already impacted job trends and could affect local employment.  KFLD
  • Eddie Bauer, a 100-year-old clothing retailer merged with JCPenney and Simon Property Group, will close its Columbia Center store in the coming weeks as part of a plan to shutter 200 locations ahead of a bankruptcy filing. CULTURE NEWS

ECONOMY NEWS

  • After a difficult 2024, Boeing earned a $2 billion profit in 2025 by delivering over 600 planes and securing 1,173 new orders, bolstering its comeback in Washington. CEO Kelly Ortberg said (Jan. 27) the company will certify its 737 Max variants later this year and the 777x in 2027.  KFLD

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On January 30, local high school students participated in a planned walkout encouraged by activist groups; school officials warned that cutting class would lead to unexcused absences (many students noted the event was coordinated via social media).  KFLD

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kennewick's Red Cross faces a severe blood shortage that has caused a 35% supply drop and 550 cancelled drives, risking delays in hospital surgeries; donors are urged to donate between Jan. 26 and Feb. 28 (with a $20 e-gift card incentive).  Apple Valley News Now
  • Costco recalled its Mini Beignets Filled with Caramel after some items sold between Jan. 16 and Jan. 30 in Washington were found to contain hazelnuts, which could cause serious allergic reactions. Shoppers with hazelnut allergies are urged to return the product for a full refund.  KFLD
