CRIME NEWS

  • Local experts warn residents that five dangerous scam text numbers are sending messages about toll highways and parking scams—residents should delete such texts and block unknown numbers to protect their personal information.  610 KONA
  • West Richland Police arrested Benton County Public Defense Director Keith Johnson on March 1 for allegedly driving under the influence — his arrest followed an officer observing his truck unexpectedly crossing into oncoming lanes and detecting an odor of alcohol after he admitted taking sleep medicine — and his next court date will be on April 16.  FOX 41 Yakima

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Pasco Public Facilities District’s board unanimously approved a guaranteed maximum price contract to build a new aquatics facility for $40.4 million. The facility will begin construction at the Broadmoor site (at Road 108 and Broadmoor) and is set to open by Memorial Day (funded by a 0.2% sales tax approved in 2022).  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Today, 70 building owners including ones in the Tri-Cities, Yakima and Walla Walla received a $55.5 million funding cut from the Washington State Department of Commerce through its Clean Buildings Performance Grant to upgrade systems with LED lighting and modernized HVAC units. The grant includes $2 million for the Pasco School District to improve its HVAC system and conduct building assessments.  NBC Tri-Cities

  • Local chef Elijah Moore gave home cooking tips for making a gyro during a morning segment on March 19th with Nonstop Local’s Chris Wright—he based his advice on his work in fine-dining restaurants across the Tri-Cities and Walla Walla. Moore now works as a personal chef and cooking teacher with Experience 46 Degrees—helping home cooks use marinated tomatoes, sumac onions, creamy tzatziki, and spiced ground pork.  FOX 41 Yakima
