COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Pasco began a $6.5 million renovation on March 6 to upgrade classrooms, the community room, ADA restrooms, and infrastructure — funded by state, federal, and American Rescue Plan funds and set to finish by October—with later phases planned to add a library and revamp the gym.  FOX 41 Yakima

CRIME NEWS

  • Franklin County deputies said two suspects in a compact SUV stole fuel from two sites by filling multiple gas cans in broad daylight & warned farm and rural ag operators to keep a close watch on their supplies.  610 KONA
  • On March 19th at around 9:53 p.m., Kennewick police responded to a call when 27-year-old Dillon Winters, who had cut his arm and was in a bad state, charged at officers with a large knife causing them to fire multiple rounds; he was taken to a nearby hospital and will be booked on assault charges once he is well (Benton County Sheriff’s Office leads an investigation) (no one else was hurt).  610 KONA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Artworks Northwest is showcasing work by its 60 members at Gallery at the Park in Richland, where visitors see over 200 pieces by local and regional artists. The group will hold its next lecture (For Love of Art) on October 8 at 6:00 p.m. at the Richland Public Library.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Kamiakin High School’s Choir and Symphony Orchestra will perform at Carnegie Hall in New York at 8 p.m. on April 8 as part of the Harmonic Convergence Concert—showcasing a carefully chosen repertoire that includes a world-premiere piece by Dr. Brandon Boyd while also offering exclusive workshops for the students to explore New York’s cultural history.  610 KONA
  • Gallery at the Park and Art Works Northwest are joining forces in Kennewick to showcase local artists — Jerry Lewis detailed plans for upcoming events and shared information about the organization.  NBC Tri-Cities

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Pasco School District was among 70 recipients that received nearly $55.5 million in grants to meet the state’s Clean Building Performance Standards. The district received almost $2 million to upgrade HVAC systems, lighting and add energy management plans in 20 buildings—changes that aim to improve energy efficiency and lower costs over time.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
