COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Tri-Cities Animal Shelter opened a new six million dollar facility next to its old building in Pasco on March 25th—about 100 dogs and cats were moved in as upgrades like improved HVAC, industrial laundry machines and an operating room aim to reduce animal stress and defensive behavior. The new building holds up to 77 dogs and 55 cats, matching the previous facility’s capacity.  FOX 41 Yakima

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Emergency crews responded quickly near Cable Bridge in Tri-Cities when an unresponsive jumper was pulled from the river just before 9 a.m. on March 25—officials later declared the victim a fatal code 60.  610 KONA

CRIME NEWS

  • Kennewick Police arrested two men accused of chasing two people into a home while armed with a gun after reports of a weapon targeting a vehicle on N Edison St—police said the suspects attempted to kick down a door on N Irving Place, fled when officers arrived, and were later booked by Pasco Police into Franklin County Jail on felony charges.  FOX 41 Yakima

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wildfires flared up in Benton County Tuesday along Columbia Park Trail near Richland, and fire officials said a helicopter with the Department of Natural Resources was en route to help fight the blaze—local agencies urged residents to avoid SR240 and nearby trails. Fire crews quickly contained a third fire near train tracks on West Sonova Road while Pasco Police blocked a trail—smoke spread over Prosser but no homes were threatened.  Apple Valley News Now

FINANCE NEWS

  • The Washington Department of Financial Institutions warns residents about a scam using fake investment education foundations that lure investors with promises of risk-free trials and loans—scammers use real documents to appear credible and direct victims via social media to invest their own money into a fraudulent cryptocurrency exchange.  KFLD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On March 25th, the Department of Government Efficiency added the Workers’ Compensation Program office on Bradley Boulevard in Kennewick to its termination list to save over $53,000 — the list also targets offices in Toppenish, Yakima and Dayton while the General Services Administration reviews lease options.  FOX 41 Yakima
  • State senators unveiled a bipartisan transportation funding plan on March 24 that includes a 6 cent per gallon gas tax increase in fiscal year 2026 to raise the rate to 55.4 cents before federal tax is added—lawmakers say this measure could raise $1.5 billion over six years to address a growing transportation shortfall, and a Senate transportation committee public hearing is set for March 25 with a vote on March 27.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
