ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A driver who ran a stop sign caused a rollover crash at the intersection of W. Marie St and N. 18th in Pasco on Monday, April 14 at 4:20 p.m., with one vehicle being t-boned and rolling on its top while the driver was cited and no occupants sustained serious injuries.  NBC Tri-Cities

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Benton REA sold its internet service PowerNET to Advanced High Speed Internet from Yakima after a unanimous Board vote on January 29—customer support and field services began on January 1 as announced on April 15. The move aims to enhance rural internet services for current PowerNET customers.  NBC Tri-Cities

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Washington State University Tri-Cities will host a panel discussion on small modular reactors and sustainable energy goals on April 22 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. The event is held in Room 120 of the Consolidated Information Center and available online, and will feature experts from WSU Pullman, Energy Northwest, and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory with moderator Kristina Lord.  FOX 41 Yakima
  • The Washington State Department of Agriculture began its first round of Japanese beetle treatments in Pasco with local homeowner Mark Dade hosting a demonstration after his lawn experienced severe damage. WSDA said the spray Acelepryn is safe for people, pets and birds—workers in high-vis vests are visiting neighborhoods to explain the process and encourage more residents to treat their lawns.  NBC Tri-Cities

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local police have partnered with ARC to launch Project Guardian—a voluntary program that lets families register essential emergency details for loved ones with special needs. Each agency will handle its own database so officers can be better informed during emergencies.  KFLD
  • At the U.S. Courthouse in Richland on April 15, 25 immigrants from 12 countries were sworn in as new U.S. citizens in a ceremony led by District Court Judge Edward F. Shea. Officials from Benton and Franklin Counties and the Washington League of Women Voters helped with voter registration — the Daughters of the American Revolution held a reception where the new citizens received American Flag pins from the Sons of the American Revolution.  NBC Tri-Cities
