- ➤ Hot air balloon rides began on April 17 and continue to fly over the Tri-Cities to show famous tulip fields at Middleton Farms daily (through May 7). Riders can choose a 60-minute full ride for $325 or a tethered ride for $15 (available at sunrise and sunset) to enjoy a fresh spring view. 610 KONA
- ➤ Families in the Tri-Cities will enjoy three Easter egg hunts this weekend, including the West Richland Community Hunt on Saturday, April 19 (9:00 to 11:00) that offers a pancake breakfast and treats, and a free WIT Adults & Kids Hunt later that day that requires reservations; meanwhile, Summer’s Easter EGGstravaganza on Sunday, April 20 (11:00 AM to 2:00 PM) will feature local vendors, pony rides, and family fun. 610 KONA
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Washington State University Tri-Cities will host a free Showcase for Research and Creative Activities on April 23 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.—112 students will present 51 original projects to the public. The School of Engineering and Applied Sciences will hold its Design Expo on April 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.—15 design projects from 69 students will be shown across several rooms. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A recent report explains that residents do not have to get a REAL ID for domestic travel because a passport card does the same job for flights, trains, and federal facilities. Long waits at the DOL have led one local to choose a passport route—Pasco’s post office now accepts walk-ins Tuesday through Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m. KFLD
- ➤ The Franklin County Board of Commissioners released a Washington State Auditor’s report that found financial mismanagement at the jail—showing that a food service firm failed to send required quarterly statements since 2018, resulting in $937,000 in unpaid commissary funds and the county paying about $1.2 million extra for medical services. Sheriff Jim Raymond said Corrections Commander Keilen Harmon discovered and recovered the missed funds—he added that the sheriff’s office will investigate further and meet the new county administrator on April 22.
