  • On May 3, Columbia Point Marina Park will host the Tri-Cities Pooch and Pal Fun Run, a Star Wars-themed event to raise funds for Pet Overpopulation Prevention — it will feature a 1k and 5k course, a pet costume contest, vendors, food trucks and a complimentary T-shirt with admission.  610 KONA

  • Tri-Cities Afghan Food is hosting its grand opening ribbon cutting event today at Pasco Specialty Kitchen, where owner Amina Mohammad will bring Afghani flavors to Pasco with menu items like Mantu, Chicken Kabobs, Kofta and Chicken Biryani; the restaurant will operate Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. + offer catering options for local events.  FOX 41 Yakima

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Pasco Airport has adopted an eco-friendly method that uses worms to treat deicing wastewater from planes and return cleaned water to the city’s treatment plant—this pilot program began nearly a year ago and will help lower costs for travelers.  FOX 41 Yakima

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On April 23, Port of Pasco commissioners awarded Richland-based Fowler Construction a $13 million contract to expand the Tri-Cities Airport’s baggage area and improve two gates, coming in about $10 million below estimates. The project will break ground soon and is expected to finish in 2026 as the first phase of a four-phase expansion plan—worth between $120 million and $145 million—that includes building three jet bridges at Gates 2 and 5.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
  • Washington lawmakers plan to raise the gas tax by 6 cents per gallon beginning July 1 as part of a revenue package estimated to bring nearly half of $3.2 billion over six years to fund highway projects, state patrol, ferries and fish passage work—this deal aims to address a projected $1 billion shortfall over the next two years and follows bipartisan negotiations to manage rising project costs and falling gas tax collections.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
