COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Firehouse Subs in Richland hosted a Touch the Truck event on International Firefighters Day to let local residents interact with firefighters and learn about their work—captain paramedic Scott Hansen said the event aimed to educate the public on the vital role of fire service.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • May 4th at 6:19 p.m., Firehouse Subs in Richland joined over 100 locations (in 30 states) to host a Touch-The-Truck event for International Firefighters Day to teach the public about firefighting. Richland Fire Department Captain Paramedic Scott Hansen said the event promoted community learning about fire service and encouraged interest in joining the crew.  FOX 41 Yakima

CRIME NEWS

  • A Pasco man—38-year-old Jake Musser—was arrested on suspicion of DUI and reckless driving after his dark-colored Audi was clocked at 122 MPH, ran a red light, and collided with another vehicle on Saturday night near Clearwater Avenue and Ridgeline Drive, injuring a 17-year-old driver.  Apple Valley News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Energy Northwest’s Columbia Generating Station was fined $4,000 and required to reimburse Ecology over $1,400 after a cooling system seal failed on June 13, which caused a spill of 282 gallons of lubricating oil—cleanup teams recovered 137 gallons while 145 gallons entered the Columbia River.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Benton County asked Southeastern Washington leaders to sign a letter citing Title IX so that girls' sports remain fair by addressing concerns over biological males on women's teams. If the Richland City Council approves the request on May 6, local officials, including Pasco Mayor Pete Serrano + Kennewick Mayor Gretl Crawford, will sign the letter to support changes by World Athletics and the NCAA + other county representatives.  FOX 41 Yakima
  • Pasco officials noted a rise in roadside sales that fall outside the municipal code—sales of nonexempt food and merchandise—and will explore enforcement options. The City Attorney’s Office, Police Department and Code Enforcement Division are set to review the issue at a city council meeting today.  FOX 41 Yakima
