ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Richland family asked for help after their teen David Sample was hurt on April 23 while doing flips on a trampoline and landed on his neck, and he was airlifted for an eight-hour emergency surgery at Harborview Medical Center—doctors say he may never walk again.  Apple Valley News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Pasco police warned riders that mini bikes are not allowed on public roads, sidewalks or parks and that riding them may lead to impound—citations and serious injury, urging parents to discuss safety rules with their children.  610 KONA
  • Pasco Police warned mini-bike riders that these vehicles are only legal on private property because riding on streets, sidewalks or parks may lead to impound and fines—officers urge parents to discuss safety rules with their children given recent close calls and injuries among young riders.  KFLD
  • Late Friday night a drunken driver hit a pedestrian on Dallas Road near Goose Gap Road, dumped his car, and reported it stolen while deputies found the vehicle and arrested him on charges of Vehicular Assault—Hit-And-Run—and False Reporting with the victim taken to a hospital but not seriously hurt.  610 KONA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Pasco locals joined the Taco Crawl on May 5th and voted for their favorite tacos, with Trejo's Mexican Restaurant emerging as a four-time winner because of its blend of Mexico City and Tabasco flavors. Owned by Cesar Trejo and his wife since 2009, the restaurant (built from a journey that started in Tijuana) now aims for a fifth title.  FOX 41 Yakima

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Irrigation districts including KID, CID, Wapato, Kittitas and Roza may face water restrictions later this summer as reservoir levels and precipitation were below average. Districts with junior water rights — like these districts — are expected to receive only 51 percent of their usual allotments while the Bureau updates forecasts monthly.  610 KONA
  • The WA State Department of Ecology launched a campaign encouraging coffee shops and customers to use reusable cups to cut trash and save money. Local businesses offer discounts and rewards—supporting efforts to reduce the 50-billion single-use cups thrown away each year.  KFLD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today filing week opened for local elected offices in Washington State including Pasco—City Council, School Board and Port races are on the ballot—and candidates must meet residency requirements and pay filing fees where needed.  KFLD
