COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bike Tri-Cities has announced upcoming National Bike Month events including Bike to Work Week/Day, a trail clean-up and a raffle—plans that will give both new and experienced riders in Pasco a chance to join local community rides.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • The City of Pasco announced its farmers market will open May 10 at Peanuts Park in historic downtown Pasco and will run every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Local vendors will offer produce, flowers, baked goods and handmade items with SNAP benefits accepted+the market will also feature free music performances and summer special events.  Apple Valley News Now
  • Pasco Farmers Market will open tomorrow at Peanuts Park in historic downtown Pasco—offering local produce, flowers, baked goods, and handcrafted items every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The market runs from May through October and accepts SNAP benefits to help more residents get fresh food.  FOX 41 Yakima

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Wednesday at 6:57 a.m., a motorcycle collided with a red SUV on State Route 240 near the Edison Street exit, sending the rider with severe injuries to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland and prompting the Washington State Patrol to ask anyone who saw the SUV described as an older model similar to a GMC Yukon with rear-end damage to call Detective Ryan Sauve at 509-734 5817.  KFLD

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A WSU Tri-Cities scientist developed a low-cost method to treat corn stalks and crop waste so that its cellulose can be more easily turned into sugar for biofuels. The research team used alkaline enzymes—reducing costs to a level where the sugar could be sold for as low as 28 cents per pound.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
  • This spring, gardeners in Pasco are shifting from growing vegetables to creating habitats for bees & butterflies. Homeowners plan to plant native flowers to support local pollinators & boost biodiversity in their backyards.  FOX 41 Yakima

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pasco is accepting proposals for 2026 Community Development Block Grant funds totaling $677,540 to help lower-income individuals, remove blight and address urgent needs—eligible non-profit organizations must apply by 5:00 p.m. on May 31, with public hearings on June 26 and funding recommendations on July 17 at City Hall.  FOX 41 Yakima
