COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The City of Pasco has allocated $650,000 in community development block grants to help nonprofits improve local resources and support low-income residents—Peanuts Park was revitalized with this funding. Nonprofits must apply by the end of the month as public hearings are scheduled in late June and mid-July to gather community input. NBC Tri-Cities
- ➤ The Girl Scouts partnered with Numerica and Swigg Coffee — inviting customers to choose coffee or hot chocolate this week to support camp funding — to boost camp programs in Kennewick. The initiative was announced on May 12 and will give direct support to local Girl Scout activities. NBC Tri-Cities
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State officials announced proposed boundaries for the new Pasco Basin water management area to cover half of Franklin County, a third of Grant County, and a third of Adams County—efforts that aim to fix long-standing water permit issues. The designation starts a move toward a co-management agreement with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation that may allow new groundwater supplies, and appeals are now open—final decisions are expected by 2027.
