ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A prescribed burn by the Department of Transportation turned into a small brush fire near the Rattlesnake Mountain Shooting Facility Tuesday morning — Fire Chief Dennis Bates warned residents that dry fuels continue to pose a fire risk and that dozer lines will be installed at the facility the first weekend of June.  FOX 41 Yakima
  • On May 13, a prescribed burn by the Department of Transportation unexpectedly sparked a small brush fire near the Rattlesnake Mountain Shooting Facility as crews burned tumbleweeds by the Highway 225 culverts — Fire Chief Dennis Bates warned residents to maintain defensible space and be extra cautious since dry fuels could ignite with wind.  FOX 41 Yakima

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Project Goodwill returns today in Pasco as high school students design garments from thrifted clothes and paper to compete for cash prizes in the Galactic Glam contest supporting school clubs. The free event is held at the Red Lion Hotel—doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the contest begins at 7:00 p.m.—and local participants are eager to showcase their creativity.  FOX 41 Yakima

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new study shows that hearing aids helped seniors keep one extra friend over three years while reducing loneliness compared to those given only healthy aging advice. Researchers tracked nearly 1,000 seniors with hearing loss in several states and urged doctors to discuss hearing aid options with patients (NYU Grossman School of Medicine).  FOX 41 Yakima

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Pasco was named to Forbes’ Best Places to Retire 2025 list because its median home price is $406,000 — slightly above the national average — and its lower cost of living helps ease retirement expenses. Forbes also highlighted the city's access to primary care, clean air, and low crime rate while noting that walkability and bike-friendliness could improve.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
