ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A collision between a car and a semi truck on I-182 near Road 68 has blocked westbound lanes at milepost 9—no injuries were reported as drivers are being diverted onto Road 68 and WSDOT is en route.  NBC Tri-Cities

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Construction is underway for a new Costco in Richland that aims to ease long lines and parking struggles at the current location—its opening is expected from mid-summer to late Fall.  610 KONA

CRIME NEWS

  • Benton County officials reported that a man's body, found in work attire by kayakers near Mound Pond on May 24, remains under investigation—an autopsy on May 29 did not determine his cause of death and further tests are pending while detectives urge anyone with information to come forward.  FOX 41 Yakima

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Washington State Department of Natural Resources warns hikers to check for trail closures and bring a Discover Pass before exploring local trails. Experts advise planning for weather, staying on marked paths, and avoiding risks + following posted rules for everyone’s safety.  KFLD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Benton-Franklin Council of Governments awarded $20.3M in federal funds for fifteen local transportation projects — from roundabouts to road widening and pedestrian safety improvements — that will upgrade roads and sidewalks in communities like Pasco. The grants will support important work on routes such as the Pasco Interstate 182/Broadmoor Boulevard multiuse pathway and bridge.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business

HEALTH NEWS

  • A study published Monday, June 2 found that only 4.3% of new radiation oncologists began their careers in rural counties and just 40% of them took jobs far from large cities—leaving local patients with longer travel times and fewer cancer treatment options.  FOX 41 Yakima
  • A new recovery center unveiled its logo on June 2 at the former Kennewick General Hospital site as construction continues for the Columbia Valley Center for Recovery — a $23 million project that received an extra $3.8 million in state funding and a $1.1 million private donation. The facility will offer inpatient addiction recovery and crisis stabilization services and is set to open in early 2026.  KEPR
