FINANCE NEWS

  • Federal student loan borrowers who have not made full payments after the September 30 grace period are at risk of default this summer if their accounts become 270 days past due—leading to wage garnishment, damaged credit and lost repayment options. Borrowers should check all accounts and contact their loan servicers today—especially if they might qualify for forbearance, deferment, or an income-driven repayment plan.  FOX 41 Yakima

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kennewick's Benton County Sheriff's Office warned on June 6th that rising triple-digit temperatures next week will drive locals to nearby rivers while cautioning them about water hazards, hidden weeds, and signs of heat stress. Sergeant Mike Clark stressed that even cooler river water does not remove the dangers — residents should check on each other and be careful when working outdoors.  FOX 41 Yakima
  • Kennewick police held their semi-annual seminar on June 6 to train property owners in crime prevention strategies — the eight-hour course covered tenant law and gang recognition — and they issued certifications upon completion. • Benton County Sheriff's Office warns that the Tri-Cities are expected to hit over 100 degrees next week and advises residents to be careful when using cool river waters to beat the heat—hidden weeds can trap swimmers.
