COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Veteran crew members of the USS Triton will be honored on June 14 when a new commemorative wall is unveiled at USS Triton Sail Park, 3250 Port of Benton Blvd, at 10 a.m. The wall is engraved with the names of all officers and crew and will offer tours and Triton artifacts—additional displays will follow after the ceremony. - ➤ The Sacajawea Bluegrass Festival will take place at Sacajawea State Park from June 12 to 15—featuring a Friday contra dance from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., youth workshops and open mic sessions. Campers may arrive Thursday after 10:00 a.m. and leave Monday by 10:00 a.m. while paying a $15 fee per night and parking fees unless exempted by registration. FOX 41 Yakima
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Kennewick Police said there was a 16% drop in violent crime and a 2% decrease in property crime in 2024, even as overall crime rose by 1%, and Police Chief Chris Guerrero will present the report at the city council meeting on June 10—showing fewer homicides and more arrests by a special team. - ➤ The City of Richland is starting phase three of its Intersection Safety Improvement Project by building a new mini-roundabout at Swift Boulevard and Wright Avenue with the intersection closed from June 11 through the end of July.
