BUSINESS NEWS

  • Rite Aid will close its stores in Kennewick and Richland as it moves through its bankruptcy process—no closure dates have been set. Other locations in the region, including ones in Ephrata, Moses Lake and Pendleton, are also slated for shutdown as the process continues.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new Washington law now requires fairness in workers’ compensation, raising fines for delays and allowing employers to lose self-insurance certification if they violate the rules too often + workers can file complaints with the Department of Labor and Industries if they are not treated fairly. Workers’ compensation attorney Doug Palmer said the law targets abuses by large employers and municipalities that have cut benefits in the past.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
  • Benton County District 4 will reopen Station 410 in West Richland on Saturday, June 14 to boost fire response in hard-to-reach areas—crew feedback led to upgrades that include equipping the station with an ambulance, a fire truck, a grass truck and a water tender. Deputy Chief Dan Drayton said these improvements are expected to reduce response times and help save lives.  FOX 41 Yakima

HEALTH NEWS

  • Trios Health is hosting its annual kids camp for children with type 1 diabetes to teach them about their condition and self-care. The three-day camp will take place from July 15-17 at Southridge Sports Complex from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily with an $80 fee covering snacks and activities—children aged six to 14 can register in English or Spanish.  KEPR

  • Kennewick will host Washington's largest organized pickleball tournament at Lawrence Scott Park from June 19-22 — the event is expected to add about $200,000 in economic impact with over 400 players registered. It will feature competitions in doubles, team, and singles play.  FOX 41 Yakima
