A new study published June 10 in the Annals of Internal Medicine shows that appendix cancer rates are rising among younger adults, with those born in the late 1970s and 1980s having rates three to four times higher than those born in the 1940s.

Many cancers are found by accident during appendicitis surgery (as in the case of Chris Williams, who is now cancer-free after treatment), and researchers are investigating possible links to environmental exposures and lifestyle factors.
