  • Strides Therapeutic Horsemanship Center, a long-time Pasco non-profit that provided horse therapy to veterans, first responders, and people with disabilities, closed after nearly 30 years because donations met only half the needed funds+all horses have been rehomed and the remaining equipment is available for sale.  610 KONA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Finley School District will switch to a four-day school week starting in the 2025/26 school year after a levy vote led to a $1 million deficit—students will attend longer classes Monday through Thursday to meet state hours. The change is expected to save about $200,000 and will be evaluated over the next year for its impact on attendance.  NBC Tri-Cities

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Benton County officials released renderings for plans to rebuild McDaniel Arena at the Benton County Fairgrounds—work that will begin after the Benton-Franklin Fair and use $12 million in local taxes and economic development funds to double seating to 6,000, add larger restrooms and concession stands, upgrade lighting and audiovisual systems, and improve accessibility. The project will digitally preserve the signature mural and is expected to be ready by next year.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
  • Washington River Protection Solutions will pay the Department of Energy $6.5M to settle allegations that it claimed $3M for labor hours that were not actually worked, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced on June 24. • The Pasco Police Department has expanded its drone program from a few consumer-grade models to a system with 16 pilots and 13 drones (including 3 advanced units) that launch from fixed, waterproof docks. Sgt. Travis Park said the program uses special FAA exemptions (to protect privacy) so drones can be deployed in 30 seconds and often reach scenes before officers arrive.  KEPR
  • Green crosswalks are appearing near Benton City to boost pedestrian safety on bike paths—this project adds signs, flashing beacons, and concrete landings; officials say it is awaiting WSDOT approval and will finish along SR 225 by the end of 2025—helping alert both drivers and cyclists.  610 KONA
