CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Pasco Police investigated a homicide on Sunday, July 6 when officers found a young man with a gunshot wound near 6th and Agate — detectives later arrested two juveniles now held in detention as the investigation continues. KFLD
- ➤ A 44-year-old man from Pasco was arrested yesterday in connection with several September burglaries when officers discovered tampered power meters, damaged doors and stolen cash — surveillance captured evidence of the suspect’s actions. FOX 41 Yakima
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Battelle will donate $3.25M to Columbia Basin College to create a new Community STEM Learning Center in a renovated building that once housed New Horizons High School on the Pasco campus—CBC plans to offer hands-on STEM experiences for students, families and educators as planning continues. - ➤ Nearly 800,000 Washington borrowers face new repayment options under the One Big Beautiful Bill — the Standard Repayment Plan now allows terms of up to 25 years and the Repayment Assistance Plan offers income-based payments for lower-income borrowers. Borrowers must select a plan by July 1, 2028 or they will automatically be moved to the Repayment Assistance Plan. 610 KONA

- ➤ Pasco City Hall announced that proposals to boost tourism will be accepted using funds from the 4% motel-hotel tax—with half of the $850,000 collected in 2024 dedicated to tourism programs. Applicants may propose events, festivals, or marketing efforts designed to draw visitors to Pasco. 610 KONA
- ➤ Pasco City Council met on July 7 and approved a two panel interview process that will include a city tour, a meet and greet with the public & panel interviews for candidates in its search for a new City Manager. The council announced three finalists—Harold Stewart, David Stockdale and Eric Swanson—who will be introduced to residents at the Red Lion Hotel & Conference Center on July 13 at 7:00 p.m. with formal interviews set for July 14. - ➤ The 2025 IRONMAN 70.3 in the Tri-Cities will be held on Sunday, September 21 and features a 56-mile bike course through Richland, Benton City, and West Richland—local roads will be closed for the event. Pasco resident Paul Hinkson has been training for the race while community members are encouraged to volunteer in various roles. 610 KONA
