CULTURE NEWS

  • The Tri-Cities Brick Convention will be held on October 11-12 at the HAPO Center where LEGO fans can enjoy interactive builds, meet-and-greets with professional LEGO artists, and themed zones—tickets cost $14.99 and a portion of the proceeds will support Creations for Charity by providing new LEGO sets to underprivileged children.  NBC Tri-Cities

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Columbia Basin College in Pasco received a $3.25 million gift from Battelle to create the Community STEM Learning Center for hands-on science and math learning. The college will use the funds to renovate an existing building — which has been unused until now — and offer new STEM opportunities to students, families, and teachers.  NBC Tri-Cities

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pasco residents are invited to meet city manager finalists—Harold Stewart, David Stockdale, and Eric Swanson—at the Red Lion Hotel Pasco Airport and Conference Center on Sunday, July 13 at 7:00 p.m.; formal interviews with council members and community stakeholders will follow on July 14.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Passengers at Tri-Cities Airport and other airports can now keep their shoes on during security checks due to a new TSA policy aimed at shortening wait times. Buck Taft, the airport director, said the change is made possible by advanced screening technology—Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced the measure to ease the travel process.  FOX 41 Yakima
  • Senator Maria Cantwell raised concerns over $20 million withheld from state firefighting funds (funding needed for the fire season) and questioned the delay with the U.S. Forest Service chief. The chief said the agency was evaluating the issue with OMB (which has yet to distribute over $280 million to forestry programs) as officials work on next steps.  FOX 41 Yakima

  • Today, Mondelēz Global LLC announced a nationwide voluntary recall of four sizes of RITZ Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches that are mislabeled as the Cheese variety—Washington residents with peanut allergies should check their pantries and discard any affected items.  KFLD
  • Walmart has recalled 850,000 Ozark Trail water bottles after consumers reported injuries when lids were forcefully ejected, and two people suffered permanent blindness. Shoppers in Pasco must return the bottles for a refund + call Walmart at 800-925-6278 immediately.  KFLD
