- ➤ On July 21, the 3 Rivers Community Foundation launched its Meet the Moment campaign to raise funds for its 2025 Annual Grant Cycle supporting nonprofits in Benton and Franklin Counties. An anonymous donor offered a $50,000 matching challenge+ every donation made by September 30 will be doubled as noted by the foundation. FOX 41 Yakima
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Washington's new statewide rent cap will be 9.683% for 2026, down from the 10% maximum used for 2025 under House Bill 1217 signed by Gov. Bob Ferguson in May. The law limits annual increases to 7% + inflation or 10% and exempts new construction and specific property types, with the new rate announced each July based on inflation data. - ➤ Jacqueline Brewster, a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher at New Horizons High School in Pasco, was named the 2025 GRADS Teacher of the Year by the Washington Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Educators—her award will be presented on August 5 in Spokane and she will join Sageview High School next year to teach Mental Health and Tech Literacy. 610 KONA

- ➤ Doctors said movies and TV mislead people about heart attacks— a study found that nearly 75% of people learned their symptoms from dramas instead of medical advice. Dr. Ann Eckhardt explained that real heart attacks often show mild chest discomfort and that delays in treatment can cause serious heart damage. FOX 41 Yakima
- ➤ The Benton-Franklin Health District warned residents about swimmer’s itch in parts of the Columbia River — a condition that causes burning, itching, and red rashes — after several people reported symptoms from swimming. Dr. Steve Krager said the itch is not dangerous but can cause discomfort and advised swimmers to avoid marshy areas, dry off quickly and not feed birds near the water. NBC Tri-Cities
