Washington's new statewide rent cap will be 9.683% for 2026, down from the 10% maximum used for 2025 under House Bill 1217 signed by Gov. Bob Ferguson in May.

The law limits annual increases to 7% + inflation or 10% and exempts new construction and specific property types, with the new rate announced each July based on inflation data.

Jacqueline Brewster, a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher at New Horizons High School in Pasco, was named the 2025 GRADS Teacher of the Year by the Washington Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Educators—her award will be presented on August 5 in Spokane and she will join Sageview High School next year to teach Mental Health and Tech Literacy.
