  • Marty Lusby, a lifelong caregiver from the Tri-Cities, has been nominated for the Visiting Angels National Caregiver of the Year award and received a $5,000 honor after being chosen from over 600 caregivers—she began caring for her grandparents at age eight and says love drives her work.  NBC Tri-Cities

CRIME NEWS

  • Pasco police responded just before 2:30 a.m. on July 23 at a home on west Marie Street and north 20th Avenue (where Lupita Ponce was found with multiple gunshot wounds and pronounced dead) and her family now asks residents for help as the investigation continues.  Apple Valley News Now
  • Kennewick police arrested 33-year-old Tanner Morton on Wednesday after he violated a protection order by entering an east side residence, assaulting the protected person, and fleeing the scene before later being captured on Clearwater Avenue—he now faces felony charges of order violation and first-degree burglary.  610 KONA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Gesa Carousel of Dreams in Kennewick is celebrating National Carousel Day today by offering $10 unlimited ride wristbands and free otter pops to the first 200 visitors. The 110-year-old carousel (featuring 44 horses, a WSU Cougar, a UW Husky and dragon chariot seats) will be open from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  FOX 41 Yakima

  • Hikers on trails like Badger Mountain and Candy Mountain are warned not to stack rocks—official land managers say moving stones disrupts shelters for small animals and plants—and may mislead trail users off marked paths.  KFLD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Senator Cantwell and Representative Newhouse introduced new legislation on July 24 aimed at supporting tribal police departments. The Parity for Tribal Law Enforcement Act of 2025 will grant tribal officers benefits—such as federal retirement, pension, death, and injury benefits—which several tribal communities, including the Colville Tribes, Kalispell Tribes and Yakama Nation, support.  FOX 41 Yakima
  • U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse will speak at a luncheon on August 27 at the Red Lion Hotel and Conference Center in Pasco—sponsored by Battelle—where he will answer pre-submitted questions. His talk follows recent threats that prompted changes in his public schedule.  FOX 41 Yakima
  • U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse will address regional issues at the Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce luncheon on August 27 at the Red Lion Hotel and Conference Center in Pasco — the event runs from 12 to 1 p.m. with networking starting at 11:30 a.m. and includes an interactive Q&A session.
