- ➤ Early Monday, Kennewick police reported that 71-year-old Daphne Rothfork was struck while crossing 27th Avenue near Tacoma Street and died at the scene — the 59-year-old driver was not under the influence and speeding was not suspected. NBC Tri-Cities
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Panera Bread will open its second Tri-Cities location at 6821 W. Canal Drive in Kennewick at 6 a.m. July 31, offering the first 100 guests a year’s worth of Your Pick Two meals and letting local nonprofits host fundraisers with a 30% donation on net sales through Oct. 31 — the store will hire between 55 and 60 employees and operate Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
- ➤ Gray’s Pizza and Bar held its ribbon cutting on Jul 28 — marking its official opening with plans for live entertainment and dining — and local community leaders attended the event. Apple Valley News Now

- ➤ On July 28, 1996, college students uncovered the ancient remains of Kennewick Man along the Columbia River, sparking controversy over study versus reburial under NAGPRA.
