COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Columbia Ability Alliance hosted a 48-hour virtual fundraising event on August 6 and 7 that raised over $30,000 to support employment services for people with disabilities in the Tri-Cities area — 80 donors participated with 51% being new supporters. Michael Novakovich said every raised dollar will help provide job training and life-changing opportunities even though the group did not meet its $50,000 goal.  Apple Valley News Now
  • The Three Rivers Community Foundation announced grants totaling more than $300,000 for Tri-Cities non-profits to support their missions—organizations must be based in the area.  KEPR

  • Benton County firefighters contained a grass fire in fields south of Kennewick on Friday afternoon—no injuries or evacuations were reported.  Apple Valley News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • On August 8, 2025, the Reach Museum held events to mark the 80th anniversary of the Nagasaki bombing and highlight Hanford’s role in developing the nuclear bomb nicknamed Fat Man - the celebration concluded at Howard Amon Park at 8:00 p.m. and focused on messages of peace and reflection on the past.  FOX 41 Yakima

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pasco Mayor Pete Serrano is under consideration to be the next U.S. attorney for eastern Washington—his nomination must be approved by the U.S. Senate and he expects to learn the decision next week.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business
  • Deer Point Meadows Investments LLC was fined $2,000 by the state attorney general’s office for raising rents more than the allowed 5% at Tri-Cities RV Park in Kennewick and an RV park in Yakima — the fine covers fees and investigation costs following new rent control laws.  NBC Tri-Cities
