ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fatal crash occurred today at the intersection of Foster Wells Road and SR 395 in Pasco when a westbound small car did not yield and was hit by a southbound pickup truck—killing Rafaela Alquicira Huipio, 50, and Yureli Ontiveros Alquicira, 17, from Richland and injuring one person with the pickup’s driver taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police found several extremely malnourished and dehydrated goats in an enclosed trailer on East Terril Road at 7:40 a.m. Monday—witnesses reported they had been confined since August 8 with little to no food or water—and investigators impounded them as they work to identify the owner amid a heat advisory with temperatures reaching 99 degrees. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Tri-Cities Airport in Pasco reported 121,000 travelers this past quarter — a six percent rise compared to the same period last year. Airport staff thanked passengers for their support after low numbers during the pandemic. FOX 41 Yakima
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Japanese beetle numbers skyrocketed in Pasco where over 2,200 beetles were trapped this year compared to 408 last year, and Kennewick saw its first significant count with 10 beetles, prompting WSDA to begin treatment with insecticide on shrubs in areas with high numbers & expecting the program to take five to ten years. This invasive species poses a threat to crops and foliage if not controlled. KEPR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Construction on the Dallas Road Roundabouts Project in Richland was halted yesterday due to a labor dispute, leaving intersections at Ava Way and Trowbridge Boulevard open to traffic. Officials did not give a timeline for work to resume+ negotiations may allow work to restart as early as tomorrow or result in further delays. NBC Tri-Cities
- ➤ Pasco is set to name a new leader after Mayor Pete Serrano was appointed interim U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District, and the city council must pick a replacement for his District Four seat within 90 days. The council will choose a new mayor at a January meeting — until then, Mayor Pro-Tem David Milne will serve. FOX 41 Yakima
- ➤ A new law named the Richard L. Lenhart Act took effect on July 1 to protect school bus drivers and riders by making unauthorized boarding or interference a gross misdemeanor — penalties include up to one year in jail or a fine of $5,000. The law honors a Pasco bus driver who lost his life protecting students. KFLD
