A Yakima man, Zachary Schwartz, pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and assault charges in Franklin County Superior Court on Tuesday for a drunk driving crash that killed a Pasco woman and her two children on December 27 on I-182 after he drove the wrong way—he was sentenced to more than 12 years in prison.

The Children's Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia received a $12,000 grant from Battelle to fund its summer program 'Read Up Stop the Summer Slide'—which distributed 10,000 free books to children in Benton and Franklin counties and will offer free school supplies at a back-to-school event on August 18.

The facility will serve 16,000 to 20,000 veterans who have limited healthcare options, though its location and groundbreaking date are still pending.
