- ➤ A new law signed by Governor Ferguson in July makes tossing a lit cigarette out of a vehicle a class 1 civil infraction—drivers can face up to $1,025 in fines, with an immediate fine of $256 for litter up to one cubic foot and larger amounts leading to fines of up to $5,000 or one year in jail. - ➤ Congressman Dan Newhouse addressed a Tri-Cities luncheon on August 27th, discussing needed changes to Medicaid and announcing $40 million for a new VA clinic—he stated that these changes are essential to protect the program—while several protesters voiced their concerns outside the event. KEPR
- ➤ Kennewick Traffic Officer Sebastian Castilleja confirmed that increased patrols in Tri-Cities school zones are in place as students return this week to enforce the 20 mph limit. Drivers are reminded that speeding in these areas can lead to higher fines and more severe injuries + authorities will issue tickets when necessary. FOX 41 Yakima
