- ➤ Benton-Franklin Humane Society will host Pups N' Pints at Copper Top Tap House on September 26th at 5 pm to support local rescues and invite dog lovers — guests will enjoy doggy swag, treats, and the chance to meet adoptable pups. All proceeds will benefit the shelter animals — event details are still being confirmed. KFLD
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On September 3, Yakima Valley Emergency Management advised residents in Goose Prairie and along Bumping River Road to prepare for evacuation as firefighters battled the growing Wildcat Fire that merged with the Fish Fire—air and ground crews worked to protect structures and reduce fuels in the area. - ➤ Michael Paul Brown pleaded not guilty to seven charges—four counts of deliberate homicide, one count of attempted arson, one count of theft and one count of fleeing—and a judge held him without bond due to mental health concerns and community safety, with his trial tentatively set for January 12th. - ➤ Richland Police is investigating claims that Dr. Mark Mulholland sexually assaulted a patient during a medical exam at Kadlec Regional Medical Center—he is no longer employed and at least two reports have been filed. KEPR
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Today, WSU Tri-Cities launches an art exhibit that explores nuclear history with 17 displays and multimedia installations — featuring a 1992 collaboration between Seattle artists and nuclear energy supporters — at the Art Center in the Consolidated Information Center building. The exhibit will host round-table discussions and community events on energy challenges and runs until February 27th. KEPR

- ➤ Washington State University Tri-Cities is hosting a career and internship fair on Oct. 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Consolidated Information Center where job seekers should bring resumes and local employers must register in advance—employers register by Oct. 1—to join the event. - ➤ Yesenia Aquino Bautista, a Regional Assistant Director at Heritage University in Kennewick, was accepted to Harvard's Master’s program for educational leadership and started classes today. She chose the online and part time option to continue her work at Heritage University and bring fresh ideas back to campus—her undergrad studies in Africana American studies bolstered her Mexican American identity. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, construction began at the busy George Washington Way intersection in Richland to add a southbound lane, left turn lane, and widened sidewalks for roughly 40,000 daily vehicles. Project Manager Sheldon Williamson said the work, funded by a federal grant, will continue until late November and is designed to keep traffic moving smoothly — drivers are advised to remain patient. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Benton County will propose acquiring 270 acres on Badger Mountain for recreational mountain bike trails for riders and eBikes, and if approved by the end of this month, the transfer from the state will take up to two years with improvements for parking and trailhead areas planned. KEPR
