COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Dog lovers are gathering today at Columbia Park for the four-day Tri-City Cluster Dog Show—led by show chairman Stacey Davis from the Walla Walla Kennel Club who has decades of international judging experience. The event celebrates canine competition and community bonds and will continue through the weekend.  Apple Valley News Now
  • Pasco residents can visit the Tri-cities 30th Women Expo, the largest event reported by Blue Mountain Digital Marketing where over 140 vendors offer discounted cosmetology, dermatology and hand crafted items plus activities like music trivia, karaoke, a dance party and a custom cocktail themed Pink Dream World. Today the expo runs from 10am to 5pm with a $7 entry fee covering both days.  KEPR

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Friday, the FAA restored Boeing’s authority to perform final safety inspections and certify 737 Max and 787 Dreamliners after a thorough review of production quality following fatal crashes. Beginning Monday, Boeing and FAA inspectors will alternate weekly safety checks—ensuring closer attention to safety as Boeing also secured significant international orders.  FOX 41 Yakima

CULTURE NEWS

  • More than 50 tattoo artists gathered at the Three Rivers Convention Center to show their skills at an annual tattoo convention that runs until Sunday evening, featuring live tattooing, seminars, acrobatics, and a car show. Daily tickets cost $15 and weekend passes are $35—drawing both locals and visitors to experience a full celebration of tattoo art.  Apple Valley News Now

  • Port of Benton will offer a free public bus tour on October 1 at 8 a.m. from its main office in Richland, stopping at local airports, Vintners Village, Wine & Food Park, Clore Center, and the future Northwest Intermodal Facility—it will also host a rail information night on October 20 to update the community on capital projects and rail network improvements.  Apple Valley News Now
  • PNNL is joining Space ISAC—an organization that connects government, university and industry partners—to use its nuclear power and cybersecurity expertise in addressing space technology challenges.   • Officials from Benton and Franklin Counties are working to resolve a dispute over a human services contract that supports programs for veterans, children with developmental disabilities and those at risk of homelessness—Franklin County’s decision not to renew the agreement has led Benton County to warn that services might be interrupted until a temporary deal is reached.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Benton County Sheriff Tom Croskrey will resign by the end of September, leaving over a year on his term—he came out of retirement in 2021 to restore stability after his predecessor was recalled, and the Commissioners will appoint an acting sheriff at their September 30 meeting.  Apple Valley News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • A study in JAMA Network Open finds that COVID-19 can weaken a person’s sense of smell for years—even if changes go unnoticed—with 80 percent of patients who reported issues and 66 percent of those without noticed symptoms scoring low on a scent test conducted about two years after infection; experts advise adding smell tests to routine post-COVID care.  FOX 41 Yakima

  • Tri-Cities Animal Services in Pasco shelters a 2-year-old neutered male Siamese mix named Gatorade who came as a stray from Richland and has a healed stub leg (a unique feature) that does not slow him down. He has been cleared by a veterinarian and is ready for adoption Tuesday through Saturday at 1311 South 18th Avenue.  610 KONA
