COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Franklin County deputies helped deliver a baby girl on Highway 395 near Sagemoor Road when a mother went into active labor while her family was en route to the hospital—quickly securing transport so that both mother and baby could receive further care. The deputies’ prompt action ensured the family was safely attended to. 610 KONA
- ➤ More than 200 families in Benton and Franklin counties will receive Thanksgiving dinner baskets from LCS Northwest this year. Volunteers will pack nonperishable items on Nov. 23 — LCSNW staff will pick up fresh ingredients and turkeys on Nov. 24 to complete the feast. KEPR
- ➤ McCurley Dealerships concluded its hometown food drive by raising over $60,000 for local food banks in partnership with the Salvation Army— the check will help feed families during the holiday season. The Salvation Army and Tri Cities Food Bank plan to continue their partnership next year. KEPR
- ➤ Pasco and the Columbia Basin Veterans Center will host the Wreaths Across America event on December 13th at 9 a.m. at Sunset Garden Cemetery Memorial—community members can sponsor wreaths for veterans’ final resting places at the Veterans Center on 1020 S 7th Ave. Apple Valley News Now
- ➤ Richland City employees have expanded the annual food drive to welcome community donations amid food shortages and a government shutdown—donations of non-perishable items can be dropped off at City Hall, the Community Center, or the Public Library until Nov. 26 to aid the Tri-Cities Food Bank. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Chiawana High School was honored with the Culture Kick Off Award by the Association of Washington Student Leaders—recognizing its efforts to build an inclusive spirit amid evolving school traditions. Principal Jaime Morales noted that changes from the opening of Sageview High School have allowed the school to focus more on close student connections—strengthening daily interactions between staff and students. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Port of Pasco commissioners approved new parking rates for Tri-Cities Airport during a Nov. 12 meeting to ease parking congestion. Starting Jan. 1, the short-term lot rate will jump 50% to $25 a day while free parking limits will change and the long-term lot cost will rise slightly — the green lot remains unchanged. - ➤ On November 11th, troopers responded to a hospital rush when a baby was born beside a busy highway intersection at Highway 395 and Sagemoor Road after a pregnant couple could not reach the hospital in time.
