COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Hundreds of veterans attended the Tri-Cities Veterans Resource Expo and Stand Down in Kennewick on Friday, where the Columbia Basin Veterans Center provided free screenings, housing help, mental health support and financial guidance—all to make local assistance easier to access.   • The Salvation Army launched its Red Kettle campaign across the Tri-Cities to raise $100,000 for local families during the holiday season—its first site is operating outside Hobby Lobby in Kennewick while about 20 sites will be active at retailers including Walmart, Fred Meyer, Yokes and Safeway by the end of November.  Apple Valley News Now
  • Hanford VIT Plant workers raised over $8,000—matched by a supervisor and with a $1,000 donation from Richland Costco—to buy more than 300 winter clothing items for over 300 children in the Annual Coats for Kids Drive supporting local families, and they planned to keep giving back in future charity efforts.  FOX 41 Yakima

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Solgen Solar Energy will end its Washington operations on January 13th when it closes its Pasco facility along with sites in Spokane, Lakewood, Kent, Fife, and Everett—resulting in 55 local job losses. This shutdown is part of a larger winding down that follows ongoing legal challenges.  610 KONA

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Pasco’s Solgen Power — which once grew very fast — will close its Washington locations in 2026, and 106 workers, including about half at its west Pasco office and Richland warehouse, will lose their jobs on January 13 after a notice issued on November 13.  Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a $1.2 million construction contract to Pipkin Incorporated for the Bateman Island causeway removal project—a joint effort with the Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Yakama Nation, and the State Department of Ecology to restore the Yakima River Delta, with construction expected to begin next month.  NBC Tri-Cities

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kadlec Regional Medical Center has launched Cancer Fit—an exercise program for cancer survivors dealing with fatigue and mobility issues after treatment that works with CBRC Health & Fitness to create personalized workout plans.
