- ➤ Families in Pasco can join free swim Fridays at Memorial Aquatic Park from 4:00 to 5:45 p.m. on June 20, 27, July 4, 11, 18, and August 8, 15—an initiative by Numerica CARES for Kids to make summer fun affordable. 610 KONA
- ➤ Tsunami Catering is hosting its 2nd Annual Car & Motorcycle Show on June 29 at 5215 W Clearwater Ave in Kennewick, inviting classic vehicle enthusiasts to register for a $25 fee while the public attends free and can purchase BBQ lunch and drinks. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Columbia Riverkeeper filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Energy on June 16th over the Hanford Clean Energy Initiative—alleging that DOE did not meet the FOIA 20-day response requirement when asked for documents related to plans for leasing 19,000 acres for clean energy. The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Oregon, gives DOE 30 days to respond amid concerns over reduced cleanup funding. NBC Tri-Cities

- ➤ A new study published June 10 in the Annals of Internal Medicine shows that appendix cancer rates are rising among younger adults, with those born in the late 1970s and 1980s having rates three to four times higher than those born in the 1940s. Many cancers are found by accident during appendicitis surgery (as in the case of Chris Williams, who is now cancer-free after treatment), and researchers are investigating possible links to environmental exposures and lifestyle factors.
