GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A new law signed by Governor Ferguson in July makes tossing a lit cigarette out of a vehicle a class 1 civil infraction—drivers can face up to $1,025 in fines, with an immediate fine of $256 for litter up to one cubic foot and larger amounts leading to fines of up to $5,000 or one year in jail. - ➤ Congressman Dan Newhouse addressed a Tri-Cities luncheon on August 27th, discussing needed changes to Medicaid and announcing $40 million for a new VA clinic—he stated that these changes are essential to protect the program—while several protesters voiced their concerns outside the event. KEPR
- ➤ Kennewick Traffic Officer Sebastian Castilleja confirmed that increased patrols in Tri-Cities school zones are in place as students return this week to enforce the 20 mph limit.
